Observing the U.S. Election: Kyiv, Ukraine

Election Events: U.S. Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine

As submitted by embassy staff

Ambassador Tefft hosted a breakfast celebrating the U.S. elections and democracy the morning of November 7. Over 200 Ukrainians from government, the private sector, the media and civil society attended. The Ambassador addressed the guests and took questions from the media after CNN projected President Obama’s victory. Those in attendance made comments about the peaceful and organized manner of the elections, some contrasting it with the contentious Ukrainian parliamentary elections 9 days earlier. The election event received wide and positive coverage by national media. Embassy staff used the event as an opportunity to meet new contacts and reach out to youth.
