Clinton on Singapore’s National Day

Washington, D.C.

Republic of Singapore National Day

On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I am delighted to send best wishes to the people of Singapore as you celebrate your National Day this August 9.

The United States has shared a long and close partnership with Singapore. Our mutual interests and values have led to cooperation on a number of issues, from security and economics to energy, education and the arts. This year our two governments launched the first ever Strategic Partners Dialogue as well as a joint technical assistance program for developing countries. And our relationship is strengthened everyday by the number of Americans living in Singapore and the countless Singaporeans who visit or study in the United States every year.

As you celebrate this special day with friends and loved ones, know that the United States stands with all Singaporeans everywhere as we work to promote peace and prosperity in the year ahead.
